Wrexham Foresters U13 Boys Coach’s Match Report
Wrexham Foresters U13 – 5
Gresford Athletic FC U13 – 3
After a recent Cup exit at the hands of Rhos Aelwyd and a very frustrating 3-2 loss against League leaders Ruthin, it was back to league action again on Saturday for the Foresters U13 side.
After a strong start to the season, the coaches had been working with the boys to get their confidence back up in the week before the game. The very tight match against Ruthin could have gone either way, with both sides playing some good football. The game against Gresford came at a good time, with the boys keen to grab 3 points at home and to get back to winning ways.
Gresford had other ideas. A very strong and effective midfield performance from them had them leading 2-0 after 20 minutes with two very well taken goals following good play out wide. A reaction was needed following this disappointing start, and the Foresters got themselves back into the game immediately. Livewire striker Alex Jones was testing the Gresford backline and he set up winger Aled Edwards to tap home after some good work to make it 2-1.
At halftime, it was a chance to switch tactics and positions to get more control of the game. 3 minutes into the second half, and the changes worked. Tough tackling defender Gethin Wright was the creator for Alex – and he took full advantage to score with a good finish to make it 2-2. Alex then took his second of the game a few minutes later with another well taken effort to make it 3-2 to the Foresters.
Gresford were far from done though. Good work again with their strong midfielders saw a shot turned into the bottom corner from an angle, and it was 3-3. Some changes from the Foresters bench freshened things up, and a winning goal was desperately needed to secure 3 points.
Midfielder Jack Edwards had a quiet first half, but grew into the game second half. Alex Jones was again the creator of the chance that saw the powerful midfielder sweep home his goal chance with a well taken finish, making it 4-3 in a hard fought game. A few minutes later, and Jack had another opportunity to score again – making it 5-3 for the home team, and game over for the Foresters. A tough match – with both sides having a very strong and combative midfield presence and lots of pace on the flanks. Pleasingly, the Foresters got the job done with a strong turnaround performance from being 2-0 down against a vastly improved Gresford team from earlier in the season.
Players of the Match were Gethin for his tireless performance in defence and midfield, and Jack, who made a welcome return to the scoresheet after a couple of games. Special mentions to captain Finn Jones for his excellent work at the back, and striker Alex Jones, for continuing to cause problems for the opposition in every game.
Next up is an away trip to Chirk on December 13th, before a busy January where 5 league fixtures are planned with lots of points to play for.
Wrexham Foresters FC U13 are proud to be supported by Read Construction, Seacon UK, JWC, Moneypenny and TenderWrite.
