The Wrexham Foresters U11s travelled to Bala on Saturday for a challenging and rewarding morning of football, with both the Gold and Green teams facing well-organised opposition and gaining valuable lessons along the way.

Gold Team

The Gold team faced a tough test against two determined Bala sides in conditions that demanded focus and resilience. Credit is due to Bala’s number 7 and their goalkeepers, who delivered outstanding performances and exposed areas where the Foresters can continue to improve — exactly the type of challenge that supports player development.

The morning also highlighted the true spirit of grassroots football, with appreciation extended to a parent who stepped pitch-side to assist Bala’s coach, ensuring both teams were able to play.

While the scorelines were not the primary focus, there were clear flashes of potential from the group. Missed passing and shooting opportunities provided learning moments for both players and coaches, reinforcing the importance of composure and decision-making under pressure.

Despite the challenges, the coaches see mornings like this as opportunities to develop individuals and strengthen the team collectively, with clear improvements already being planned and implemented.

Player of the Match – Gold Team

• Vinnie – A solid first-game performance, showing real team spirit by stepping up to play in goal for the second game.

• Owain – A focused display, adapting well to different teammates and responding positively to guidance from the sidelines.

Green Team

The Green team started the day brightly, taking an early lead against a well-drilled Bala side. Despite Bala working their way back into the game and finding an equaliser in the second half, the Foresters showed discipline and determination to see out a well-earned draw.

The second match saw a noticeable shift in approach. The Greens took control early, playing on the front foot and scoring a quick pair of goals before half-time. Although Bala responded after the break, the Foresters raised their intensity and work rate, pulling away to secure an impressive 5–2 victory.

Coach Gaz praised the players for handling two very different matches with maturity, highlighting how their ability to adapt reflects the progress being made on the training ground.

Player of the Match – Green Team

• Iestyn Groombridge – A game-changing presence with some excellent saves and a fantastic attitude throughout.

• Oscar Hernandez – Continuing to develop into a confident finisher and a constant challenge for opposing defenders.
