(Bute Energy Welsh Cup – Round of 16)
Wrexham Foresters FC Women’s historic first Welsh Cup journey came to an end on Sunday, exiting the competition in the Round of 16 after a hard-fought away fixture against Llandudno FC.
While the result marks our first defeat of the season, it does little to diminish what has been a remarkable and inspiring cup run for a first-year club, reaching the final 16 of one of Welsh football’s most prestigious competitions and eliminating two Tier 2 sides along the way.
The Foresters arrived in Llandudno under challenging circumstances, travelling with a bare 11 players, with Player / Head Coach Kural unavailable and two players away on international duty with England. Despite this, the team showed courage, belief, and togetherness throughout the 90 minutes and were rewarded early with a deserved opening goal from team captain Morgan Churchill, that momentarily put the Foresters ahead.
Llandudno responded with experience and quality, but the performance from the Foresters never dropped. The work rate, organisation, and commitment on display reinforced what this group has already proven all season.
Speaking after the match, Coach Kural shared her pride from afar:
“Unlucky you lot. Hard to go there with a bare 11 and compete for 90 minutes. I can’t lie, I got so excited when we went 1–0 up. We’ve had a great cup run and we’re still unbeaten in the league. Now we recover and go again next Sunday.”
Coach Perry echoed that sentiment:
“I’m absolutely proud of all the girls. You played great. Losing doesn’t hurt — what hurts is knowing we were the better team. But getting this far and beating two Tier 2 teams is a huge achievement. Heads up, be proud.”
Coach Mike added:
“The team were fantastic today. The work rate was outstanding. We showed that we belong at Tier 2.”
As the cup chapter closes, the focus now shifts firmly forward. The Foresters remain unbeaten in the league, with promotion to Tier 2 firmly in sight, alongside continued pushes in the NEWFA League Cup and the Betty Pickering Cup.
Reaching the final 16 of the Welsh Cup in our first season is not an ending…it’s a statement. This group has set standards, built belief, and laid foundations for what comes next.
We thank Llandudno FC for their hospitality and professionalism, and we return home proud, motivated, and hungry for more.
