U16s Show Character and Resilience Despite Tough Defeat

The Wrexham Foresters U16s faced a difficult afternoon away to Saltney Town, with the final scoreline reflecting a challenging set of circumstances rather than a lack of effort or commitment from the players.

Reduced to nine players and suffering three injuries during the match, the Foresters were handed a near-impossible task. Coming straight after the Christmas break, with limited training and match sharpness, the group showed immense resolve to keep going under sustained pressure.

Despite the scoreline, the performance was defined by desire, perseverance, and togetherness, with the remaining players running themselves into the ground and refusing to drop their standards.

Head Coach Maz praised the squad’s attitude and resilience after the match:

“Want to say a massive well done to those lads who made it today. You showed me the desire, commitment and perseverance required in the face of adversity and all deserved that medal. You ran yourselves into the ground.

That was a tough ask even with a full squad, straight after Christmas with no training, games and picking up three injuries. Pat yourselves on the back and I’ll see you all Tuesday if you’re not carrying an injury.”

The club would also like to thank everyone who assisted on the day with pitch setup, nets, flags, and respect barriers, ensuring the fixture could be completed under difficult conditions.

While the result is disappointing, the spirit shown by this group speaks volumes about the character being built within the U16 setup and a foundation that will serve them well as the season continues.
