Team Captain Sam Bryan on Futsal, Development, and the Foresters Vision

As Wrexham Foresters Futsal continues to grow and make its mark, few players embody the project’s values quite like men’s captain Sam Bryan. Still young himself, Sam has become a leader within the group, guiding a squad that has already shown resilience, ambition, and belief during a challenging but promising start to the season.

At the heart of the project is futsal, a fast-paced, high-intensity format of the game that places heavy emphasis on technical ability, decision-making, and composure under pressure. For Sam, the developmental benefits are clear.

“I believe that futsal can impact a player’s technical ability on a much larger scale than football due to the intensity and pace of the game,” he explains. “That intensity helps improve technical ability when players return to the pitch.”

This philosophy has been evident in how the squad has approached the season. Despite injuries and suspensions affecting key players, the group has responded together.

“The lads have worked really hard as a group to overcome the challenges of having key players not involved recently,” Sam says, highlighting the strong dressing-room culture that has formed.

A key influence in that environment has been head coach Richie Jones, whose passion for futsal has set the tone.

“Richie is a great coach with loads of passion for the sport, which makes it a much more interesting and enjoyable experience for the players,” Sam adds.

Looking ahead, ambitions remain high. As captain, Sam is pushing standards and belief within the squad.

“I want the group to aspire to push for European qualification this year,” he says. “I believe the quality is there to go far.”

And for players considering futsal for the first time?

“Foresters is a great project to be part of. It welcomes anyone interested in learning futsal and developing as a player.”

With a clear vision, committed leadership, and a growing pathway, futsal at Wrexham Foresters continues to prove itself as more than just an alternative format, it’s a powerful development tool and an exciting future for the club.
