CQT U14 Wanderers 5–4 Wrexham Foresters FC
Wrexham Foresters U14s were narrowly defeated 5–4 by CQT U14 Wanderers in a breathless, end-to-end contest that saw momentum swing repeatedly before the hosts ultimately edged a thrilling encounter.
The match began at a frenetic pace, and it was the Foresters who struck first. Logan Spilsted continued his impressive run of form by opening the scoring inside the opening five minutes, finishing confidently from open play. The early goal marked his sixth in four matches and gave Wrexham a deserved early advantage.
CQT responded swiftly, with their number 10 immediately asserting himself on the game. His pace down the flank caused problems and helped the hosts draw level. The Foresters reacted positively, however, and regained the lead through Kian, who finished off a superbly worked team move to restore Wrexham’s advantage.
As the game intensified, challenges flew in and the first yellow card of the match was shown to CQT’s number 4. Shortly afterwards, CQT’s number 10 again proved decisive, bursting down the wing before setting up their number 9 to make it 2–2. Just before the interval, the hosts struck once more on the counter-attack, with their number 10 racing clear and finishing clinically to send CQT into the break 3–2 ahead.
The second half saw the Foresters make a key tactical adjustment, moving their striker into a left-back role to better manage the pace out wide. The change brought greater balance and helped reduce space in dangerous areas, leading to a more controlled period of play.
Despite improved organisation, CQT were able to add two further goals to extend their lead. Wrexham refused to let the game slip away, and Spilsted calmly converted a penalty to keep the contest alive at 5–3.
With time running out, the Foresters pushed forward with determination and belief. Their pressure was rewarded when Kian struck his second goal of the afternoon, pulling the score back to 5–4 and setting up a tense finish. Despite a strong late push, the equaliser ultimately proved just out of reach.
Speaking after the match, the coach reflected positively on the performance:
“Although the result didn’t fall in our favour, the lads showed great character, adaptability, and resilience right to the very end. Logan’s continued his scoring form, and the way the team adjusted tactically were real positives to take into the next fixture. Elis Jones put in another really strong performance, along with Jake at the back and Harri out wide.”
A frustrating result in a tightly contested match, but one that underlined the group’s attacking quality, resilience, and willingness to learn.
