Wrexham Foresters U11 3 – 1 Cefn United
Saturday saw the Wrexham Foresters U11s take on a new challenge as they stepped up to experience 9v9 football with two 30-minute halves, the format they will compete in next season.
Facing a Cefn United side already accustomed to the U12s format, the visitors entered the match with more experience in the larger game. But the Foresters showed maturity and determination well beyond their years, rising to the occasion in impressive fashion.
The home side started brightly, with Oscar continuing his recent run of strong performances by opening the scoring with a well-taken goal. Cefn responded quickly, pulling level soon after, but the equaliser only seemed to sharpen the Foresters’ focus.
As the game progressed, both sides created opportunities, but it was Foresters goalkeeper Iestyn who delivered one of the standout performances of the day. Producing a series of heroic saves, Iestyn tipped shots onto the crossbar an incredible four times, keeping the visitors at bay and giving his team the platform to push forward.
With captain Mason leading the side, the Foresters displayed a composed and intelligent team performance. Despite the visitors’ greater experience in the 9v9 format, the home side controlled key moments of the game and ultimately dismantled the challenge with confidence.
When the final whistle blew, Foresters had secured a deserved 3–1 victory, proving they are more than ready for the transition to the larger format next season.
